Jack Slay- Rise Of The Dead

1: THE RUN

Lee dropped to the ground on her knees and whirled around, catching the oversized man in the guts, he growled.

She twisted her hip into him and he leaned over, while Lee had the chance she grabbed his head and snapped her knee to his forehead. She waited, and then let him drop heavily to the ground. Many other were around her, so skinny and tall and ugly. She sank into the stance, fists ready for hitting something, and then it came at her. Lee was knocked off her feet and thrown high into the night sky. She sucked in air as she descended again and one of the tall things caught her just as she hit the ground, she looked up at its huge eyes. She launched a fist and he dropped her, she rolled and touched down her right toe to the ground and circled it around her. The ground at the tall things feet covered their heels up to their legs. Lee let herself an inner smile, but there was one that had leaped up just as the ground started to work up its body. Lee grunted with the impact it brought when it landed in a heap in front of her. She looked at her opponent in the eyes, that dead dull green colour that had her plain reflection printed in it. She allowed herself to calm, and then, like she knew what to do... "I'm going to reason with you," she said. "I'm going to help you heal yourself ok?"

The thing with the dull eyes tilted its head and snarled. "Can't help me child," it's voice scraping against its throat. "But I can help you."

It made towards her and she lashed out, a kick at its chin and a fist cracking against its head, Lee wished she hadn't broken the wall protecting the brain. Her opponent was weak because it was still human, she didn’t want to kill it. The others snarled at her, their legs rotten, covered in concrete that she had lifted from the ground. She kicked again and the green eyed creature fell unconscious. Claps behind her and Lee turned sharply, fists ready.

"Wow," she saw someone walking towards her through the shadows. "I have to say, I am impressed."

Lee relaxed, "Jack, you could have come a little earlier." He smiled; he was wearing a clean pin stripped grey suit that suited him to the touch, his eyes the colour of the sky at sunset and his hair black as raven wings. The lips always scarlet red. Lee wondered if he wore lipstick.

"No need," he looked around. "I watched, these demons are not fully possessed and don’t have full power over the humans they enter. These are still humans."

One of the demons that were jammed to the ground hissed at Jack.

"Shut up," he growled back. "You OK?"

"Yeah," she said. "I don’t think any of these knew what they were actually supposed to be facing."

"Earth," Jack nodded. "It's the power fullest source of magic, and you my friend have it. Be thankful to god, that's why you are being chased."

She glared at him, and then shook her head. "What are we going to do with them?"

He looked at the sky and the surroundings they were in, an old car park with only a tiny Punto parked in a dark corner, even which looked abandoned.

"Simple, we leave them here and then their master comes and sets them free." She frowned as she followed him out the car park, looking back.

"But how will their master be able to free them from the ground? I am invincible."

"No, you are vulnerable." He informed her. "Fire, lava I should say burns the ground, they will be free."

She sagged as he gripped her arms, "You just put my hopes down."

He looked at her in shame, "Lee. I am sorry about you thinking you're so good, it's just that...I am better."

She punched him in the side and he kicked the ground, the blades under his jacket clinging against each other as they flew up landing on the rooftop.

"What if some random civilian walks into the car park right now?" she asked under suspicion.

He took a moment before answering, "In case you didn't notice I actually sprinkled some of this into the air." He handed her a small bag, it was surprisingly heavy in her hand, she opened it and saw nothing but sand.

"It's sand," she said awkwardly. "What's sand supposed to do? Make them sneeze? An allergic reaction."

He raised a brow and turned sharply, "Well, yeah...in a way it'll give an allergic reaction. Well it will make people sneeze, it's nothing but like a.....like a...."

She looked at him amazed with the amount of lies he could produce, "It's nothing really, is it? It's just sand."

He sighed, "Not really."

They jogged across the thin and narrow tops and came to the edge where Jack grabbed her again, leaping onto the next rooftop.

"What is it then?" she asked when they had landed.

He looked at the streets below, "It's just sand from a nursery ground."

Lee kicked into a sprint and jumped the narrower link between the buildings, Jack followed, hesitating only a little before catching up with her. She was running fast, but even though she didn’t know the direction to the asylum Jack let her lead the way. Nearly every day he thought she had to run distances, from demons, killers and assassins. Leaping rooftops and ducking walls was her daily routine, kicking and punching and then healing was her hourly duty. Jack had never heard of her complaining, but sometimes she had looked tired, weak but would always stand beside him during a fierce battle.

She waited for him at the edge where there was a massive gap, Jack approached and then took hold of her arms, she waited for the lift off but then he stepped away.

She looked at him, “What’s wrong?”

He was looking at the rooftop, where they had to jump next. “You try a go yourself” he said. “Maybe you have seen the way I control myself, feel the intensity and stuff.”

Lee swallowed, “I don’t have your power, and I can’t do that.”

Jack shrugged and then put his hands on her arms; she didn’t like the tight grips of all those people who had jumped along with her, his was harder, her arms left bruises. Then he leaped and they went higher into the sky, she watched the water around him shimmer, the moisture in the air dragging them safely to the rooftops. When they landed Lee ran to the other end and saw their massive asylum. She sat at the edge and twisted herself, her fingers curling on the edge. Jack stood looking down, and then just dropped; he looked at her and raised his arms ready to catch her. This is what they did all the time; Lee had asked many times if they could get a car instead.

She dropped and he caught her, she grunted and they walked in silence towards the huge iron gates, they opened although they had eyes to recognise its people. Jack was now in the lead, climbing up the stairs and pushing open the metal doors, the light struck her and she saw people inside, wearing amazing dresses and getting ready for dinner.

“You are coming for dinner?” Jack asked although she wouldn’t eat tonight.

“Yep,” she nodded. “I’m going to go to my room and get changed, I might be late but yeah I will be there.”

“OK,” Jack said and turned into a large corridor.

Lee turned the other way, the tiled glossy floor showing her fuzzy reflection, she walked all the way and then turned left where she bumped into the old servant named Isabella. She wore a wonderful suit and her silver hair was platted neatly. She smiled.

“Miss Razor!” she exclaimed, “There you are, why have you been?”

“I was on a case Isabella,” Lee said lazily. “Were you looking for me?”

Isabella nodded, her brown eyes shining, “yep. In fact I brought you a new dress come on and check it out.”

Lee followed Isabella to her room, when she entered the servant laid a black dress, polo necked and fully armed, it was incredibly long. There was a slight silvery design all over the top of the dress, and then the black heels came and the matching jewellery and head bands. Lee stared; she had never acquired wearing a dress so beautiful. She smiled at Isabella and walked into the shower.

When she had done Isabella let Lee dress and helped her with the hair, tied it in a neat bun and let the end of her hair fall out over her shoulders; giving the illusion of her having short hair. The necklace went over the clothes; Lee’s neck was obscured by the polo neck dress. Her sleeves were tight at her wrist, Isabella tightened the dress from the back and Lee gasped. The ring was massive, a huge black diamond in the middle, as so the necklace had the same and the bracelet. The earrings were small studs with that same diamond; the last thing Lee did was slip into the high heeled black shoes.

Isabella looked at Lee and smiled, “you look beautiful, taller.”

Lee observed herself, she looked Egyptian. Beside the mirror were the eyeliners, blusher and lipstick. She stroked on top liner and eye liner, the blusher a light pink on her cheeks and the lipstick was pale pink.

Now she was done, Lee turned. “Am I late?”

“Very,” Isabella said. “You’re about ten minutes...they wait for all to arrive, you’re the last.”

“Jesus,” Lee said and walked out the room. Isabella closed the door after her. “Isabella you coming?”

Isabella was beside Lee, “yep.”

For another minute or so they walked through dark corridors and then Isabella opened a door to the huge dining room, they all turned to stare at the incomer.

Lee smiled politely, holding her dress to make sure she wouldn’t trip over, Isabella had wondered into the kitchen. She sat at the table and Merging looked at her, her dress was green and short, beside her Fissure was in white. To Lee’s right was Texo Lunto, smirking at Kate who sat beside him. To her left sat Jack, staring at his knife and fork, his black suit almost matched her own; he also had silver design in it.

“Lee,” Merging said. “How have you been today?”

Lee smiled, “I’m sorry I was late, too much to do and stuff. We came back from the case late anyway, we had trouble.”

Fissure leaned forward, “what’s that on your forehead?”

“It’s just a bruise Mr. Ahbathila,” she said politely. “No worries.”

Jack who had been silently staring finally looked up at Fissure across the table, “where the hell is the dinner? I’m starving!”

To Lee he sounded angry, although something had bitten him, but then he got back to staring at the knife and fork. At that the kitchen doors opened and the smell of vegetables, roast and bacon came stirring in, dinner was served. They ate in silence and when they had done, Lee walked silently in the corridor. She thought of the demons, what must have happened to them, she didn’t care about them or anything; it was just that the people who would have seen them...their minds flushed. But their master as Jack said would have come and released them, he had to be right.

“Thinking?” she looked up and saw Jack leaning to her right, his arms folded, legs crossed in front of him. He was leaning against his room door, surprised for the first time Lee realised her room was just opposite his. He was still in the clothes he wore at dinner, but she hadn’t recognised the slit across his cheek.

“Yeah,” she said softly, she was tired, her body ached. “I’m sorry I must go sleep.”

He nodded and she opened her room door, and then turned. “What about the demons?”

Without looking at her, “what about them?”

She raised a brow, “do you think their master arrived?”

“Sure he did,” he said and she watching the edge of his lips twitch. “Texo was spying on us; saw that their master had come. He then followed us and heard everything. Not like I had said anything rude.”

Lee swallowed, he sounded angry, although something was tearing him apart.

“Why are you angry?” she asked although he was raging at her. “Why are you being like this?”

With a grunt he walked into his room, slamming the door shut being him. Lee waited a few minutes, then went into her room, undid her hair, took off the jewellery and shoes left the dress on and dropped onto the bed.

Within seconds she was dreaming...
